Tough Weekend at the Gold Coast 500 🏝️
Hi Everyone,
What a massive event, it’s always unreal to be able to sleep in your own bed on race weekend!
Friday we pushed through some miserable weather which was quite unlike the Gold Coast but on Saturday we had clearer skies for the good stuff.
Managed to pull together a strong qualifying lap and secure a spot in the shootout with P9 and really pushed the car to its limits and went up 3 spots into P6.
Once the lights went out I was able to jump up 2 positions to P4 and ran a longer first stint strategy, came into the pits on lap 27 for 4 fresh tyres and some fuel.
We were going well and probably needed a Safety Car to bunch the field back up which we didn’t get, but unfortunately did get a 5 second penalty in my final stint and dropped down to finish P8.
On Sunday we had a chaotic qualifying session with car bonnets on roofs and cars turned around, but managed to secure a ticket into the Top 10 shootout again!
Unfortunately the right hand side of the car clipped the wall early on in the lap which took away any chances for pole but secured a second row start for us.
It was a circus in the opening lap but was able to jump one spot off the start, then it was pretty much follow the leader.
A safety car pulled the field together with 7 laps remaining but it hurt us because we were given another 5-second penalty and fell into P13.
Tough weekend to be honest, we tried a heap of things all weekend but couldn’t quite get the tyre life in the window which hurt us each afternoon.
It was a great weekend off-track seeing all my friends, family and the fans enjoy the event, it was something special.
Next up, we’re off to Adelaide in about a months time for the finale, I’ll write again once the season is finished!
Cheers,
Chaz
