SYDNEY SWEEP FOR MOZZIE 🏆

Hey everyone,

Wowee! What a weekend in Sydney, talk about consistent speed, the Walkinshaw Andretti United team had the #25 Mustang tuned up all weekend long to secure us two from two wins! 💪

You can usually get a gauge on how the weekend will go when you roll the cars out for practice, as that session will tell you if you’re in the ballpark or not. Thankfully, we rolled out pretty good, with young Woody topping the charts 😅

We made a couple tweaks on my side of the garage, but nothing major, to get us ready to attack on Saturday. Speaking of Saturday, I spent a good deal of the day just trying not to freeze my ass off - you come from Darwin and Townsville back to the South, and you can sure feel it.

By the time qualifying arrived, we felt quietly confident, and executed well to capture P3. The night racing looks amazing on track, but it makes for a weird schedule, as obviously everything happens later in the day…anyway, I jumped in the car when I was told to and that was about it 😂

Shootout time, put together a clean lap but misjudged the grip levels just a little bit - I was a bit conservative on my lap and didn’t maximise the grip that we had. Still, reasonable lap, and good enough to get us into P3, and starting from the pointy end of the field.

Supercars did an epic job with our intros at Sydney, I felt like an NRL player with how I was introduced! That was awesome, and then to line up under lights and get the flames out the side of the cars was cool.

Took off strong for the race, got my elbows out to make some passes, and then the team made a great call to drop me earlier in the pit to gain track position. We could put the hammer down from there, and then chased down Matty (Payne) at the end there as he was on a one-stop strategy, and crossed the line first.

What a bloody great feeling, that was a combination of everyone working so well together, and I am really proud of all our team - this is a result that we can all be really proud of 🏆

Sunday arrived and we were pretty speedy again right away, thankfully the weather was a bit kinder to us and the sun came out to play, which warmed the track a bit more which our cars seemed to enjoy. Qualifying went to plan, with a P5 result earning us another run in the shootout.

Put down what I thought was a mega lap, until Will (Davison) topped it by some tiny margin to knock me off at the top. I’ve been looking up to that bloke since I entered the category, and he’s still out there kicking my butt. Still, a front row start is always a positive.

Race-wise, you honestly can’t draw it up too much better. Got off the line well, battled with Will into one and two, made the pass about halfway through the lap, and then from there it was pretty smooth sailing. It’s actually one of those races where things were going so well, that you start to become suspicious, which ended up being mostly on my mind 😂

Brought it home, and honestly, what a result for the whole WAU crew. We have 60 people who are part of our organisation, and weekends like this are a result of them working day in day out to get us up here, so thank you so much to them.

Three weeks, super-soft tyre in Tasmania, so we’ll see whether we’ve made some solid gains in that area and whether the philosophy of our car suits that compound. For now, time to celebrate and crack open a Woody.

Yeeeeew!

Chaz 🤙
