Podium finish at the Sydney SuperNight 🥈
Hi Everyone,
A quick trip down to Sydney for the SuperNight and we were straight into it with the #25 Mobil 1 Optus Racing Rocket, we had two practice sessions and then a 3-part qualifying before the sun went down on Saturday.
Our achilles heel is still our qualifying car and the best we could do was P9 on Saturday and P16 on Sunday.
Sydney Motorsport Park is a high degradation track, so we went for the two-stopper strategy in the Night Race - I tried to conserve my tyres and got up to P5 with some great overtakes before the safety car came out with 15 laps to go after we had pitted. I made my way up to the front pack with for a nail biting, three wide, double overtake to grab the second spot on the podium - it was on for young and old at the end there, I was glad I was on the inside of that battle, but it was awesome to be on the right side of it, and I’m sure it was cool to watch.
On Sunday we started pretty far back but got a good start and was able to shoot up 5 spots into P11. I preserved my tyres in the first half of the stint so was able to charge my way forward after we came into the pits to take four tyres with a 15-lap sprint to the end. Towards the end we had strong race pace, charged the field and was able to make some aggressive passes to finish upP7!
I do think these are events are pretty taxing on the crew to run a late night and then day race again the next day, but it’s always cool to run at night so hopefully one day we can have a two nights of racing in a row.
Also a reminder to everyone about #NoSocialHate - even if you don’t agree with how the race goes or the results, it doesn’t give you the right to get behind a screen and have a go at any of the drivers.
Thanks for the support and chat to you all after The Bend!
Cheers,
Chaz
