Mixed Bag at The Bend 🤨
Hey guys,Â
Well that was a funny weekend, a bit of a rollercoaster!
The track was super tricky with the all rain on Saturday, it was a good day to be a duck! 🤣 It was pretty tough to see where the track was wet and where it was dry, so I had to be super careful through practice to keep the car out of trouble.
We rolled out for Quali and we were straight onto the front row - you beauty! Our Race start was a blinder, straight past Andre and into the lead, but I gave up the place after making a mistake into Turn 6 on the opening lap.Â
Andre was too quick from there, even with a 5-second penalty hanging over him, P2 was the best I could do! Looking over the race, we probably could have done a few things differently in terms of tyre strategy and tyre conservation, but I was happy to be on the podium and grab another trophy for the team.
Sunday was a mixed bag, starting P6 for both races and finishing with a DNF and P5.Â
Race 10 was absolute chaos on the opening lap, there were cars going everywhere, and I got caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Everyone was so squeezed on track as it was, and when Sladey left the track and returned to my right, I only just moved to my left to stay out of carnage and hit Cam.
The car was left a bit bruised and battered after that, and I wasn’t sure how it was going to pull up for the next race.Â
The WAU Team worked like ninjas before the final race to get the car ready to roll so when we hit the grid again, the car felt pretty good off the line, climbed a spot through the opening few turns but wasn’t able to hold it and stayed P6.
There wasn’t much movement after that, Anton (the leader) suffered a problem early in race which promoted me back to P5, and that’s where I stayed to finish Race 11.
I felt a little bit deflated after that, definitely wanted to push further up the field but there wasn't much you can do with the car I had, just wish I could have won a trophy in the last race to thank the team for all their efforts over the weekend!
Chat to ya after Winton!
Cheers,Â
Chaz
