WILD WEEKEND OF SUPERCARS RACING IN NZ š
Hey Everyone,
Well, what a wild weekend of racing across the pond in TaupÅ š Iām not sure how it looked on TV, but with a brand new layout, crazy weather conditions, and a fair bit of tyre degradation, we were kept on our toes all weekend.
Before we get into the race stuff, I just want to say how cool it was to be back in New Zealand. The fans were out and about the moment we hit the track and were so awesome and welcoming, I already canāt wait to be back. š¤
Racing-wise, Iām sure as everyone saw, we had a pretty speedy car across most of the sessions in NZ, so to come away with no silverware is a bit disappointing. We topped the charts in the opening 90-minute practice and took that form into qualifying on Saturday.
Unfortunately, the rain began to come down about midway through the shootout, which meant the first five cars had a dry track, and then the last five of us were out there when it was wetā¦ We did what we could, grabbed P7, and then clawed our way up through the field in the race in dicey conditions to be right behind the leader at around the middway mark. Again, I felt good in the car, everything was going to planā¦until it wasnāt.
Wins and championship points in this category are really hard to come by, so to feel like that race was a win that got away is tough to swallow. This is motorsport and there are ups and downs, the important part is to have a strong support system to lean on when things are down, and fortunately Iāve added another member to that support system who consistently puts a smile on my face.
We had speed there at the mid-section, and were making a bunch of moves, but then went a little aggressive with the strategy in the final stint and lost the tyres. That was the tale of TaupÅ a little bit, no one had any real data and the deg was pretty high, so it was a bit of a shot in the dark to see who could strike gold on the strategy.
All in all, a weekend with definitely positives to take, although felt like, results-wise, we left a bit on the table and have work to do leading into Perth.
To New Zealand, again, you guys were awesome, that was one of the most fun Supercars weekends Iāve had in a while and it was thanks to you, hopefully, we see you all again real soon.
