POLE AND PODIUM HIGHLIGHT AUSGP RACE WEEKEND 🌴

Hey Everyone,

Wow, what an intense few days of racing down at the AusGP for Round 2 of the Supercars Championship. It’s always a special time of the year when the F1 comes to town, with everything just feeling that little bit bigger.

I think we can all agree in saying that when pit stops are out of the question and the racing is all about who can hold it wedged the longest, while holding on to their tyres, it creates some fairly… chaotic racing. It felt like all weekend long we were glued to each other, in some kind of battle every lap of the race. 😅

On our side of the garage, we showed good pace and some flashes of brilliance across the weekend, although unfortunately weren’t able to put it together when it counted. The back-to-back quali sessions were pretty wild with not a lot of time in between sessions, but managed to line up P3 and P9 for the first two races.

Dropped one spot in Race 3 to finish in P4, and then Race 4 was a bit of a disaster after heavy contact flat spotting all of my tyres, and I had to nurse it home for P17… not ideal.

Another dual quali early Saturday morning went really well for us, with the Walkinshaw Andretti United team hooking me up with a fast car which earned us P3 for Race 5, and Pole Position for Race 6! It’s always awesome to line up at the front and prove that we’re going in the right direction as a team.

Come race time, we had some real dramas with our starts this weekend, which we’ll need to analyse before the next round, which sent me back in each race and down into the top 5. Recovered for P3 in Race 5 and was able to spray some champagne with the boys which was nice, and reward our team with some silverware back at the race shop.

Race 6, I was in a great position in P2 and then a really unfortunate mistake on my end sent both me and Matty Payne off at turn 9, which basically spelled the end of my race. I got caught up in some dirty air following him, and that combined with cold tyres just sent me into lock up, and I had nowhere to go but his rear bumper.

Really gutted about that - as a racer, that isn't what I’m about, but it just happens sometimes. I’ll own that, and went up and apologized to their crew after the race, but just a bummer of a way to end things.

Still, all things considered, I feel like as a team we are right there in the fight, it’s just more about maximising those opportunities when we get them and converting the pace into results.

We’ll head to Taupo next - a pretty new venue for all of us which equals the playing field out a bit, so I’m stoked to get over there and put the #25 Mustang up the front where it belongs.
